Day 1 – 3 Hanoi & Halong Bay
Arrive in Hanoi and explore the city by visiting the Temple of Literature, traditional tea house and the Hoa Lo Prison Memorial, then relax by Hoan Kiem Lake. Enjoy Halong Bay by private boat, exploring the limestone islands and Surprise Cave and spend the evening underneath the nights sky. Finally back to Hanoi before taking the overnight train to Hue.
Day 4 – 5 Hue
Explore the city of Hue like a local, on the back of a motorbike with a tour guide. Take in the ruins of the Imperial Citadel, a city within a city. Stop at Thanh Toan to see the 18th century covered bridge and enjoy the local market, then off to the Buddhist monastery, Thien Mu Pagoda and enjoy lunch at a nunnery then take in the lakeside royal tomb of Emperor Tu Duc.
Day 6 – 7 Hoi An
Travel through the beautiful coast rice paddies down to Hoi An, now a World Heritage site. This international trading port has been perfectly preserved and feels like centuries past. Enjoy roaming the cobbled streets, browsing the art galleries and shops selling ceramics, paintings and colourful cloth lanterns. If you fancy, pop into a tailor for something special made or try a cooking class.
Day 8 – 10 Ho Chi Minh City & Mekong Delta
Take an early morning flight (Approx. 1.5hrs) across to Ho Chi Minh City, formerly Saigon. Enjoy a sightseeing bus tour to get to grips with the city, taking in the Reunification Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral, Opera House and visit the War Remnants Museum. Take a day trip across to Mekong Delta, where you will visit the coconut gardens, sample tropical fruits and coconut jam. Explore the villages by a tuk-tuk tour and enjoy lunch in the heart of Delta, sampling local specialities. Then enjoy a free day to yourselves to explore more of Ho Chi Minh City.
Day 11 – 12 Phnom Penh
Travel across the border to Cambodia, where you will enjoy lunch as a group then off to explore the capital city. Take in the markets and browse the good on offer or take yourself off to the Foreign Correspondents Club for mojito on the rooftop. Your second day will be a more sombre experience, taking in Cambodia’s tragic past with a tour around Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, before going out to the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek.
Day 13 - 14 Battambang
En route to Battambang, stop off to visit Kampong Luong, a stunning colourful village that floats on water, enjoy an hour or so here, before heading onto Cambodia’s second largest city, Battambang. Walk through the pretty riverside town and take in the French elegance and colonial architecture.
Day 15 – 16 Siem Reap/Angkor Wat
Arrive in Siem Reap the night before, ready to explore the world famous Angkor Wat complex, which date back to the ninth century. A truly magnificent sight, a sunrise or sunset view is a must and a perfect photo opportunity. If you like adventure, try the Angkor zip line, that gives you a birds eye view of the rainforest.
Day 17 – 18 Bangkok
Travelling to Bangkok takes approx. 10hrs, which includes the border crossing and a lunch stop. Arrive in this bustling city, full of tuk-tuks, khlong boats and street stalls serving up tasty Thai cuisine. If you have time before your flight, then try to take in some of Bangkoks wonders such as, the Grand Palace, Jim Thompson’s museum and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha.
